First semester ends on Friday, January 21 with exams next week Tuesday through Friday. There will again be open campus for students with parent permission.
Professional Development:
Teacher:
o January 17, Martin Luther King Day will be an in-service for K-12 teachers. Through Lisa’s facilitation, teachers will be involved in a variety of activities, many lead by our own teachers. The day will end with all staff together to hear a presentation by Darcy and myself on the budget situation. As always, board members are welcomed to visit PD days.
o January 24, 2-hours professional development, 4-hours semester transition
Superintendent:
o Darcy, George, and I attended the “Public Schools in Crisis” forum with the Hourglass Foundation yesterday in Lancaster. It was a sobering but realistic picture of public education’s future from the perspective of PSBA, PSEA, teachers, principals, Superintendents, and legislators.
o Today I attended a presentation on “Documenting Discipline / Performance Management Blunders” presented at IU13.
Board Opportunities:
Legislative Breakfast: March 14 at IU13 Burle Center
IU Convention: April 13 at Lampeter Elementary
Transition Meetings:
As part of my transition meetings for this position, I have now begun to meet with officials in our local municipalities. My purpose is to build bridges and open the lines of communication.
Board Recognition Month:
January is School Director Recognition Month. We will be recognizing all of you for your tireless work at our board curriculum meeting but I would be amiss if I did not mention it at this formal meeting. Thank you very much for what you do throughout the year!
