Flood Make-Up Days

This is to inform you of a change to the Palmyra Area School District calendar. As previously communicated, due to the flooding that occurred earlier this month that resulted in the closing of school for two days, PASD had requested a waiver from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to allow for these days to be excused from the state required 180 student instructional days. We have a verbal notification that the request has been denied, which has led to the amendment of the 2011-12 school day calendar. We also requested that the PM kindergarten students’ half-day session that was cancelled on Wednesday, Sept. 7 be waived. Again, we do not have official word but we do have a verbal commitment that this request will most likely be approved. When we have official notification, we will notify afternoon kindergarten parents.

As approved by the board of directors, Monday, October 10, 2011 and Monday, February 20, 2012 will now be instructional days for student in order to meet the state required 180 student instructional days. These two days were originally scheduled as having no school for students. February 20 was noted as a make-up day if needed.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause in your schedules and we thank you for your understanding and patience while we made these necessary decisions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building principal.

Respectfully,
Dr. Collene R. Van Noord
